Exploration
Air borne magnetic surveys using high sensitivity scalar magnetometers are conducted to map the surface geology. These surveys detect small alterations in the terrestrial magnetic field caused by contrasts in the rock magnetic susceptibility particularly at boundaries between and within basement rocks. The Mag-03 sensor is frequently used in a compensation system to detect airframe induced errors and thereby optimize the performance of the scalar magnetometer.
Below ground the vertical magnetic stratigraphy can be logged using the BSS-02B magnetic susceptibility tool. This operates on an a.c.induction principle and its main use is to assist in the discrimination of iron ore bodies and Kimberlites.
The MS2 magnetic susceptibility meter is used in the mineralogy laboratory to assay ores. Whole cores can be logged with this system and core conveyor systems are available for this purpose.
The low self-noise, small size and accurate vector response of the Mag-03 fluxgate sensors, or the wide bandwidth Mag639 (12kHz), provides an alternative to bulky induction coils as the detector in transient electro-magnetic (TEM) surveying both above and below ground. The ruggedness and excellent temperature stability makes the Mag-03 sensor the ideal choice as an orientation sensor in borehole tools and drilling equipment.
