Near Surface Geophysics

Bartington offers customers an array of magnetic field measurement instruments suitable for a range of near surface geophysics applications – from archaeology and forensics to pipe and cable location and UXO detection.

In archaeology, the Magnetic Susceptibility System is ideal for initial magnetic susceptibility mapping, whether across large sites, in trenches or downhole. More detailed imaging can then be obtained with the Grad601 Single Axis Gradiometer, which assists in the location of underground features such as ditches, houses, kilns and paths.

The Grad601 Single Axis Gradiometer is used in forensics in the same way as in archaeology to detect buried remains, weaponry or a refilled pit.

Bartington Grad-03 gradiometers are also used on land and at sea for pipe and cable location and unexploded ordnance (UXO) detection.
